What do you want the scribe to start with?
If the note you intend to write is already clear in your mind, recording the entire consultation may be more than you need. You can dictate that account after the patient leaves and let an AI scribe turn it into the first draft.
This is different from speaking a polished note line by line. Your recap can follow the order in which you remember the visit. The drafting step groups related details and puts findings, assessments, and decisions into the chosen format.
A full conversation or your own summary
A recording gives the scribe the discussion itself. It can be useful when you want to draw the draft from what was said throughout the visit, rather than reconstructing it afterward.
A recap begins with the emphasis you have already chosen. For a consultation that covered several concerns, you can summarize each concern and its decision directly. A long conversation about circumstances that needs one line in the chart can begin as that one line in your dictation.
The distinction is the amount of conversation you want the software to work from. Full capture gives it more detail. A recap gives it your selected account. Both can lead to a draft; neither requires you to type the first version.
Where ordinary dictation is enough
If you already dictate finished notes under the required headings, speech-to-text may cover most of the task. AI drafting adds more when your spoken summary still needs rearrangement and rewriting before it looks like the note you want.
Astralcyte supports SOAP, medical history and physical, and medical consultation drafts. You choose the document, supply the recording or recap, and edit the resulting draft before copying it into your chart.
A short recap still deserves confidentiality
A recap may be shorter than the consultation, but it still contains patient information. Astralcyte makes the transcript and draft on your device. The recording, transcript, and note stay in encrypted storage and are not uploaded to the company, as described in the privacy policy.
You can introduce help with writing after the visit while keeping the consultation itself as you conduct it today.
