A good draft can still be the wrong shape for your record
If your practice uses an intervention-and-response format, a single polished paragraph may leave you separating it into fields. If you use DAP, a draft with several extra headings may leave you joining those passages again.
Seeing the same fictional session in two formats makes this purchasing choice concrete. You are looking for less rearranging as well as less typing, rather than choosing whichever demonstration sounds most fluent.
The same session in DAP and BIRP
For this fictional session, the therapist dictates:
"We discussed different preferences about setting a time for household-task conversations. I asked each partner what would make that manageable. One proposed a short weekly discussion; the other was not ready to agree. My impression is that the difference is about the pressure of scheduling, not yet about the practical length of the discussion. Both agreed to revisit the proposal next session. No between-session arrangement was agreed."
An illustrative DAP draft:
Data: Discussed differing preferences about scheduling household-task conversations. Therapist explored what each partner would find manageable. One proposed a short weekly discussion; the other was not ready to agree.
Assessment: Therapist identified the pressure of scheduling as the current point of difference, with discussion length not yet resolved.
Plan: Revisit the proposal next session. No between-session arrangement agreed.
An illustrative BIRP draft:
Behavior: Partners expressed different preferences about scheduling household-task conversations.
Intervention: Therapist asked each partner what would make the discussion manageable.
Response: One proposed a short weekly discussion; the other did not agree to a weekly arrangement. Therapist identified scheduling pressure as the point needing further exploration.
Plan: Revisit the proposal next session. No between-session arrangement agreed.
DAP keeps the session account together; BIRP separates the therapist's work and the responses. Both use the same dictated substance. These drafts are fictional illustrations, not measured product outputs.
Match the draft to the work you want removed
Astralcyte offers both formats, alongside narrative and other options. You can request a different format from the same transcript without recording the summary again. A new draft preserves the edits to an earlier one.
Look at the text your existing record requires and how much you would still move between fields. Include copying the edited note there when comparing the effort with writing it yourself.
The privacy policy explains that transcription and drafting happen on your device without sending either partner's conversation to the company. Encrypted storage protects the working text.
